Language Training Fluency in a foreign language is something to which many aspire, but which few achieve, and the ability to conduct business in a foreign language can often prove to be a key differentiator. However, without the basis of an already strong working knowledge in a language, that level of fluency is not something that many can hope to achieve. But do not despair. Language ability at many different levels can bring its own benefits and satisfaction. Being able to greet and exchange a few words with clients and colleagues in their own language; understanding the gist of newspaper articles; grasping the key messages of the television news in the hotel; venturing to order local specialities rather than simply choosing from the two or three dishes you understand on the menu; directing the plumber who turns up to mend the leak at your Mediterranean home; or just keeping up with your partner or children as they show off their language skills on holiday - these are all achievable goals. So, whilst total fluency may not be an achievable goal, everyone can aspire to focused improvement in their language skills.
